London's Catastrophe

 Bus blast

I’ve had a week of mixed emotions. Wednesday brought me delight when I heard on the radio, as I worked, that London will be hosting the Olympics in 2012. All my colleagues were ecstatic. We compared what our age would be just 7 years from now, trying to predict where we would be, what we would be doing. Less than 24 hours later we were horrified to hear about the catastrophe that hit London, from the same radio which brought us delight the day before. I wonder whether the people who lost their lives so tragically yesterday were also planning for the Olympics. Were they excited too? Did they ever even imagine that their lives would be over a few hours later in such a way?

I feel for the families who’ve lost their loved ones. But I feel even more for the 700 innocent people injured yesterday. They will have to live with what has happened to them. They are the ones who have nightmares and recall every second of what happened on the bus/train, the screams, the darkness, the smoke, the smell of burning flesh, the blood and…

The loss of innocent lives is witnessed everyday in many countries in one form or another. When will this violence and blood shed end? When will the display of power end? Why can’t we live in peace? WHY?
