An Islamic fundamentalist???

Over the past three weeks the general atmosphere and people’s attitudes towards the Muslim community in London and elsewhere in the UK has changed dramatically. I have never felt this before. Even after 11/09, when the twin towers were destroyed, the British public kept their cool and continued life in much the same way. It’s very different now.

Since the ‘terrorist attacks’ in London on the 7/7/05 anywhere I go, whether it’s a trip to the local newsagent, a trip to London on the coach, or just for a walk in the park, I seem to have everyone’s eyes firmly fixed on me. It’s really bizarre . Last weekend I went to London and as I was planning to stay for a few days. I decided to take a few things with me in a small but spacious bag. When I got on the coach, I felt that I should keep my bag close to me to prevent people on the bus feeling intimidated and uneasy. A few moments later the bus driver asked us to place our bags in the special luggage compartment on the front of the coach. As I got up to do this about 8 people around me almost jumped out if their seats. I smiled at them and sat back down and squashed the bag under my feet instead.

I have been labelled as an Islamic fundamentalist just because of my appearance. Society sees me as a threat. It’s one the most hurtful and uncomfortable things in the world to be an outcast in society. And for what? Because a few insane individuals have resorted to violence and murder as a way of seeking revenge on the West. In actual fact what they have done has caused not only friction but perhaps increased hatred towards the Muslims in Britain and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

The world is becoming an unjust place to live in.
