Cleansed by the rain

I do not find the rain depressing. I find it refreshing. It beams new life. Each drop joyfully falls from the sky and lands on the ground synchronised. The lightening is the music orchestrating the drops and guiding them on their way down. Each drop is eager to join the rest, fleeing the clouds. The wind joins in and the rain dances to the music of the sky. Occasionally we are invited to view the picture painted by the merger of the rain and the sun.  It’s a vision of beauty. It’s the sound of the earth and the sky uniting to celebrate something new. It’s calling us. It’s inviting us to join in the festival.

Why do we misunderstand the rain? Its not tears from the sky. It’s a ceremony, a spectacular display from the heavens. Yet this rain tonight, with all its beauty, brought tears to my eyes. I was not sad. I went to the open window and I spoke to the rain.

“What are you trying to say to me rain? I can feel you on my skin and smell you in the air. I can see you cleansing everything in sight. I can hear you talking. What are you trying to say to me rain?”

Purify your soul”, the rain whispered in my ear.

My tear drops stopped falling and I smiled. The rain waved goodbye as it descended the sky. And silence filled the night.

The Zahir

The Zahir

I’m a huge Paulo Coelho fan. I find his writing fascinating. I have been waiting eagerly for his new publication “The Zahir”, which was released in the UK a few days ago.

I was browsing his official web-site tonight and was pleasantly surprised to find that the first country in which this book was published was Iran (1st April 2005, Caravan Books)! However it was available in Brazil on the 2nd of April 2005. This means that somehow it was translated and in print at and an amazing speed. What makes it more out of the ordinary is that Paulo Coelho is originally Brazilian and you would have thought that this book should have been released there first.

Apparently, the Americans don’t get a glimpse till the end of August 2005!!! I shall write more about this book once I have read it.

Music by the lake

A lake in Zurich

Life becomes so much more exciting when there is a hint of spontaneity. From a simple discussion a few days earlier, we found ourselves on an aeroplane on our way to a corner of Europe. We met a couple of friends and begun our adventure. I was excited. The fact that I was standing in foreign land was so bizarre. I found myself staring at the German speaking adults and children around us. I felt lost. It felt like a dream.

As night fell we decided to spend a few hours by the lake. It was . It was tranquil and serene. The lake in front of us remained motionless. Amir Hossein had his Setar and our friend had his Nay. The two played. When they stopped it was . We found ourselves surrounded by an applauding audience. Some were standing and some lay on the grass beside us. We exchanged smiles. Although we came from different lands, and lived very different lives we all sought something in the music in much the same way.
